We believe this is Professor Alexander Bickerton who was the founder of Christchurch University. His most notable student is none other than Ernest Rutherford.
This bust is from Christchurch University's Great Hall; when the building was constructed in 1873, it was intended to house busts of notable faculty members, such as Professor Alexander Bickerton.
