An amazing pair of colonial clay pottery urns made in Drury, South Auckland. By Drury Fireclay Pottery and Bricks.
Coal mining in Drury began around the 1800s and during the later part of the 1860s Drury was at the end of the new railway line to Auckland. Uneconomic mining and a not so good coal deposit made earnings for the expensive railway venture low.
In 1905 The Drury Coal Company opened near the existing 1860s mine site. The availability of substantial amounts of fireclay lead to the renaming the company the Drury Fireclay, Brick and Potteries Limited.
Damages and losses, these have always been a pair and have no repairs.
We have attached a picture showcasing their products and these urns are the larger ones on either side!
